Adding dried fruit to your wreath designs is a classic way to bring festive colour, fragrance, and texture into your creations. In our latest YouTube tutorial, Debbie shares how to wire whole dried fruits, such as oranges, limes, and apples — a simple but essential skill for anyone making Christmas wreaths, garlands, or seasonal decorations.

Whole dried fruits add a natural, rustic charm and a beautiful pop of colour to festive arrangements. Their warm tones pair perfectly with spruce, pine, cinnamon sticks and ribbons — evoking that timeless Christmas feel.

At Triangle Nursery, we love using whole dried oranges and limes to complement foliage-based wreaths and table decorations. They’re durable, easy to work with and look beautiful year after year when stored properly.

What You’ll Need

Before you start, gather your materials:

Step-by-Step: Wiring Whole Dried Fruits

  1. Prepare your fruit.
Choose fruits that are fully dried and firm. If they still feel soft, allow them to air dry for a few more days before wiring.

  2. Insert your wire.
Take a length of floristry wire and push it through the centre of the fruit until both ends are even.

  3. Create a stem.
Twist the two wire ends together underneath the fruit to form a secure stem. This allows you to anchor the fruit firmly into your wreath or garland base.

  4. Add finishing touches.
If you’re incorporating multiple fruits, you can group them into clusters with cinnamon sticks, pinecones, or dried foliage for a more decorative finish.

Design Tip

When designing, mix textures — pair your dried fruits with spruce, eucalyptus, or dried hydrangeas for a layered, organic look. Use contrasting ribbons or natural raffia for an elegant finish.

💡 Time-saving idea: Combine your dried fruit with other pre-wired decorations in advance — this makes your wreath-making workshop or event run much more smoothly.
