Jam jars are perfect if you are looking to create a relaxed table centre for an upcoming event or wedding. Using one on it’s own or a cluster grouped together on a table with a mix of pretty blooms works nicely. AND even better, the jars can be transported home after the event to be enjoyed. Depending on your theme or colour scheme, you may want to personalise your jam jars with lace, hessian, ribbon, raffia and even buttons or pearls to add character and charm.

Below, Triangle Nursery have put together a step-by-step tutorial to inspire you and help you decorate your up-cycled (or purchased) jam jars for an upcoming wedding or event.

Step 1: Source all your materials you would like to use to decorate your jam jars and bottles with, from ribbon, raffia, twine and your essentials tool kit including scissors and a hot glue gun (do not use around children).

Step 2: Depending on the size of the jam jars or bottles you are decorating, it is a good idea to measure the width / diameter of each jar (simply with the ribbon) to ensure you do not waste your ribbon or materials. As seen below, with the ribbon you need to make sure there is an overlap to allow enough space to glue and link one side to the other.

Step 3: Using a hot glue gun, glue the ribbon together securely around the glass jam jar or bottle.

TOP TIP: A hot glue gun is better to use for decoration as it is much stronger and firmer than PVA. This stops the materials from sliding down the jars.

Step 4: Depending on your theme, you can add extra detail to the ribbon for charm, e.g. twine, pearls or buttons.

Step 5: Finished one, on to the next! Although it can become tedious, depending on the quantity of jars you have to decorate, it’s certainly gets you in the wedding spirit! Depending on your theme and colour scheme, it will depend whether you would like all the jars to be decorated the same, or as seen below, a mixture of mix and match ribbons, lace and pearls.

TOP TIP: Suffering from wedACHE. Don’t be overwhelmed by you ‘to do’ list, planning YOUR wedding should be fun! So why not, get the whole family involved with the decorations, OR have you considered this to be the perfect activity for your hen do.
