Happy May Day
May Day usually takes place on 1st May and marks the beginning of Summer and the new cycle of growth and fertility in nature. Dating back to Roman times, it is marked with festivals and celebrations centered around the village green.
Traditionally gifts of gathered flowers were given on May Day, which is where the saying “bringing in the May” derives from.
The May Day flower crown was made popular during the Hippie era symbolising “love and peace” and used to crown the May Queen (or King) during the festivities.
