Easter Flowers - Arum Lilies, (Calla lily), and Longiflorum Lilies
Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 06:42AM With Mothers
Day over for another year, Easter is now fast approaching and our attention at Triangle Nursery is turning to Easter flowers such as Arum lilies, Longiflorum Lilies and Kentia Palms.
The Arum lily is known under a variety of names such as Calla lilies, Pig Lilies, Trumpet Lilies and Zantedeschia - all of which are the same thing! White calla lilies are the most popular colour at Easter time, closely followed by the yellow varieties. Although grown form bulb, calla lilies are not really lilies. The demand on the wholesale flower markets for Arum lilies is at it's largest at Easter time and in August for wedding flowers. Unfortunately, in these two peak periods, calla lilies are at their lowest supply levels and as a result prices can be very high. Commercially grown Arum liles come into season in late March and end in August.
Longiflorum lilies, (commonly known as 'Longi's'), are available all year round. Most varieties are white in colour but there are a few new pink varieties on the market these days. White Longis are the colour of choice at Easter time. They are available in different stem lengths and vary from one flower bud per stem up to four.
In the next few days we will be publishing guaranteed prices for both longiflorum lilies and calla lilies. Please call the Triangle Nursery sales office for more details on 01255 861263. We look for to hearing from you.
Kind Regards
Mark Kenny
