Why are Red Roses Expensive at Valentines Day?
Friday, January 15, 2010 at 06:43AM There are
a number of factors that contribute to high prices but supply and demand is the main reason by far. Valentines Day is the same date all over the world and red roses are the star of the show.
Other influencing factors include growers employing more labour to make sure the crop of red roses are picked and packed ready for the big day, the use of heat and light in the greenhouses and the fact that whilst demand goes sky high the quantity of supply remains relatively stagnant give or take a slight increase.
The myth that florists 'jack the price up' and rip off their customers is totally and utterly untrue - the entire supply chain pays much more than usual because of the high demand.
